このたび、ソニーグループ4社が主催する写真・映像アワード 「第2回 THE NEW CREATORS」 において、
「僕は写真を残そうとしていない」 が佳作に選出されました。
本作は、私が近年取り組んでいる「写真を残すこと」そのものを問い直す映像作品です。
一般的に写真は「記録」や「保存」のためのものと考えられています。しかし私は消えていくことや失われることの中にこそ、記憶や存在の本質があるのではないかと考えています。
映像作品「僕は写真を残そうとしていない」は、その考えを氷という素材とともに表現した作品です。写真を永遠に残すためではなく、やがて消えてしまうからこそ生まれる美しさや、記憶との向き合い方をテーマに制作しました。
今回の選出はグランプリには届きませんでしたが、多くの応募作品の中から評価をいただけたことを大変嬉しく思います。
また、本アワードの入賞・入選作品による合同展が、ソニーイメージングギャラリー銀座にて開催予定です。開催日程などの詳細は主催者からの発表を待ちたいと思います。
これからも「写真とは何か」「記憶とは何か」を問い続けながら、氷というメディアを用いた表現を発展させていきます。

I am pleased to announce that my video work “I Am Not Trying to Preserve Photographs” has been selected for an Honorable Mention in the 2nd THE NEW CREATORS, a photography and video award organized by four Sony Group companies.
This work is a video piece that questions the very act of “preserving photographs,” which I have been exploring in my recent practice.
Photography is generally considered a medium for recording and preserving. However, I believe that the essence of memory and existence may lie precisely in things that disappear and are lost.
“I Am Not Trying to Preserve Photographs” expresses this idea through ice as a medium. Rather than attempting to preserve a photograph forever, I created the work around the beauty that emerges because it will eventually disappear, and around the ways in which we confront and understand memory.
Although this recognition did not reach the Grand Prix, I am deeply grateful that the work was recognized among the many submissions received.
An exhibition featuring the award-winning and selected works is also scheduled to be held at Sony Imaging Gallery Ginza. I will share further details, including the exhibition dates, once they are announced by the organizers.
I will continue to question “What is photography?” and “What is memory?”, while further developing my artistic practice using ice as a medium.
